3/5/06 Although we are on the verge of wrapping up another season with our Banquet Monday Night (good school attire guys!) I have some photos that never found their way onto the web site. Here they are: From the National Prep Tournament

Loyola Seniors Honored with All Baltimore County Honors

At the end of the 2006 wrestling season three Loyola wrestlers were named all Baltimore County. Rob Mister 130lbs, James Davies 140lbs, and Dan Peters-Rodbell 171lbs were all named to the Baltimore Sunpapers All Baltimore County Wrestling team.

2/26/06 After a long weekend at Lehigh university for the National Prep Tournament Loyola comes home with their three captains, a winning record and James Davies as All American for his top 8 performance at 140 lbs. Loyola wrestlers went 10-7 against the competition earning Loyola 41st place (22 points) of the 123 teams in the tournament. Rob Mister went 4-1 the first day and earned the dubious distinction of having to show up at 6:30 the next morning for his next match because he had hit the 5 match per day maximum. Dan Rodbell's last two matches both came down to overtime. He won the first one on a ride-out in double overtime, the second match required a 5 point throw with 20 seconds left to get to overtime, then in the overtime he was charged with fleeing the mat and his match and career ended.

While it has been a long season that seems to go on forever the Loyola Wrestlers are having successes rarely seen in the Loyola wrestling history. This weekend the Loyola MJWL team competes in the Tri-League Championship at New Town High School and we will be looking for more accomplishments from the Middle School Dons.

2/23/06 The end of the year banquet is at Loyola Monday March 6th. Cost is $10 per person. Please bring your singlets/ warmups with you.

2/22/06 It has been an extremely busy week of Wrestling for Loyola. In the MIS state tournament Loyola finished 7th with 111 points. Loyola had 4 place winners of the 12 wrestlers sent . James Davies finished 2nd losing again to rival Joe Breen of Mcdonogh. He finished his season 32-4, and is 112-58 in his career. Rob Mister finished 5th and won his 122nd match, Dan Peters-Rodbell also finished 5th and has 94 career wins. Owen Duffy finished in 6th place after being injured in the consolation rounds. For the first time the state tournament is a qualifier for the National Prep tournament and wrestlers were allowed to wrestle back for 7th place. Finishing 7th for Loyola was Jesse Perseghin, and finishing 8th was Alex Tiernan.

Following the MIS tournament at McDonogh the entire Loyola wrestling team, parents, and friends had to hustle back to Loyola to run the 3rd Annual MSWA Elementary and Middle School State Championships the next day. With 11 mats spread across the floor of the gym and 600 wrestlers from every corner of the state Loyola was the center of the Maryland wrestling. The Loyola middle school team had a chance to show off and scored 28 points in this tough tournament. Placing for Loyola were Mike Zito DIV IV 105lbs 4th place, Patrick Downey Division V 110lbs (2nd place), Ted Weis Division V 130lbs (3rd Place), C McCormick Division V light Hvywght (3rd place).

2/13/06 We will have a short/light practice today from 3-5.

2/12/06 Loyola finished in 4th place in the MIAA tournament over the weekend. Taking 13 wrestlers to the tournament the Dons had 9 wrestlers place. The placers for Loyola were Jesse Perseghin (103) 5th, Bobby Almon (119) 5th, Alex Tiernan (145)6th, Rob Mister (130) 3rd, James Davies (140) 2nd, Danny Smith (152) 5th, Dan Rodbell (171) 3rd, Ben Garbart (189) 6th, Owen Duffy (275) 5th. Photos from day one of the tournament are

2/4/06 In a re-scheduled match with St.Pauls. Loyola won 52-21.

2/2/06 In a closely contested match with St. Mary's Loyola pulled away in the heavyweight matches to defeat the Saints 37-28. In the nightcap of the tri-meet was the match with Boys' Latin. Celebrating senior night the Dons filled their roster with the seniors in the program and they came through as the Dons pulled away with a 50-21 victory, avenging a close loss last year to the Lakers on a tie breaker criteria. The senior Dons in the lineup were Rob Mister (130), James Davies (140), Alex Tiernan (145), Mark Shorr (171), Dan Rodbell (189), Andrew Busan (215), and Pete Prosser (275). The seniors went 6-1 on the night. The two victories bring Loyola's dual meet record to 18-2 on the season.

1/27/06 An exciting Friday night of wresling at Loyola. Loyola competed against Annapolis Area Christian School and Calvert Hall and finished with a win against each. Loyola defeated AACS 44-16, and in the nightcap infront of a raucous crowd defeated Calvert Hall 47- 18. Next up is Boys' Latin and St. Mary's on Tuesday.

1/24/06 After a long layoff the Dons once again returned to the mats and found victory. In a series of matches almost too numerous to keep rack of the Middle School wrestling team won more matches than they lost against both Glenelg and St. Ignatius Academy. The Varsity and Junior varsity both too were victorious in their matches against Winters Mill high school of Carroll County.

A highlight of the Winters Mill match was James Davies winning his 100th match.

1/19/06 Unfortunately we have had to suspend all wrestling activities until Monday. There has been an outbreak of impetigo and we thought it best to shut down the program, clean everything thoroughly, and keep from spreading the condition to the teams we would be competing against. Please follow the instructions provided by Mr Parr and clean all your gear thoroughly. If you see any symptoms see you doctor right away, get the medication, and be sure to have the doctor write on the note that is is not contagious. It takes 24 hours after treatment for you to be able to wrestle. If you were not present at the meeting or need more information you can go to the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene for more information.

As we have for the last two years it is our privilege to be able to host the Elementary and Middle school MSWA Age Weight Championships. As we have in the past we will be relying on our wrestling community to help out with hosting this effort. Please read the following letter from Coach Truitt for how you can help.

1/18/06 Good News from the Middle school:
It only took 10 years or so but we finally beat McDonogh 92 to 21, if your keeping score. Coach Zito must have really worked them hard while I was away because McDonogh's team is not much different than our team when it comes to experience. We handled them easily this year. You should be very proud of them. They earned it through hard work. This is a special group of kids. Please remember to bring in your money today, now, asap, etc.($15.00) for the Old Mill Tournament this Sunday. Must weigh-in Saturday, either at Chesapeake High School in Essex @9-9:30am or at Old Mill High School between 6 and 8pm.
Thanks,
Coach John

1/18/06 Loyola faced Metro area #1 Mt. St. Joe and #3 Curley last night in a tri meet at Curley. The #5 Baltimore Sun Metro area Dons fell to both teams. Read the Baltimore Sun article here . Thursday the Dons are in action again against the #10 Bulls of Hereford in a tri-meet at Pikesville High at 4:00.

1/16/06 Loyola defeats Mt. Hebron 42-10 and the JV wins as well 36-29. Next up is Curley and Mt. St. Joe at Curley Tuesday 1/17/06. Come out and support the Dons as they try and stretch their win streak to 15.

1/8/06 Loyola went to the raider Duals and won the tournament in convincing fashion. Loyola went 7-0 in the dual meets and finished the evening with a convincing 52-19 win over Dulaney. The Dons took home the first place team trophy and many individual awards. Jessie Perseghin (112), Bobby Almon (119), Rob Mister (125), Brian Frantz (130), Danny Smith (152), Dan Rodbell (171) all won their individual weight classes.

Rob Mister of Loyola also went over the 100 win threshold at the tournament and now has 106 varsity wins over his 4 year varsity career at Loyola.

The JV team competed at the Chesapeake JV Tournament and along with other successes saw Shannon Klein finish in 2nd place.

The weekend saw Loyola extend it's season record to 12-0. Next up is Mt. Hebron this Friday at Loyola. As a reward for a hard fought weekend and to help with your week of Exams there will be no practice on Monday January 9.

1/3/06 Happy new year and back to wrestling. First for the schedule. The new year has brought some changes to the schedule. You can check out the new schedule on the schedule link. The biggest change is the new date for the tri with Curley and Mt. St. Joe on 1/17.

Early season success has led to some recognition for the Loyola wrestling program. The Maryland state Wrestling Association has Loyola ranked as honorable mention overall in the state, #13 in Dual Meets, and #16 in Tournaments. The Baltimore Sun has Loyola ranked as #11 in the Baltimore Metro area.

12/20/05 Loyola Finished in 2nd place to Curley in the BIG 20 tournament at Perry Hall High School last weekend. Loyola had a terrific showing in the finals as they went 5-0 and crowned 5 champions Colin Schuster (119), James Davies (135), Alex Tiernan (140), Dan Peters Rodbell (171), and Owen Duffy (275). The Baltimore Sun covered the tournament here.

Along with the success of the varsity at Perry Hall the new Loyola junior league team competed at the Little 20 tournament on Sunday. Loyola placed 6th as a team and crowned two champions Pat Downey, and Teddy Weiss, Mike Bullock took 3rd, T. J. Robinson and Danny Zawodny took 5th, and Michael Tich 6th.

12/15/05 The Tri-meet with Hereford and Pikesville has been rescheduled for January 19, 2006 at 4:00 at Pikesville. You must be on your weight for the tournament +1 lbs on Friday. If Baltimore County is closed on Friday the tournament starts an hour early on Saturday, is +2 lbs, and will be single elimination in the first round. If you have questions call or email coach Truitt.

12/11/05 Loyola wins the Parkville Tournament. Loyola's varsity competed in it's first tournament of the year and the Dons came home with the win. Loyola had eight wrestlers in the finals. Placing first for Loyola were 103 Jessie Perseghin, 119 Colin Schuster, 125 Rob Mister, 135 James Davies, and 140 Alex Tiernan. Placing 2nd for the Dons were 130 Brian Frantz, 171 Dan Peters-Rodbell, and 215 Pete Prosser. The Towson Times covered the tournament and wrote a nice article about Loyola Wrestling here .

12/9/05 With the closing of Baltimore County Public Schools the Parkville tournament has become a one day tournament on Saturday. Loyola wrestlers have to be at Loyola at 7:15 am for the weighin at 8:00 at Parkville. If the Snow emergency plan is in effect for Saturday the tournament will be postponed/cancelled. The situation for the JV tournament at Milford Mill is the same.

There is an optional practice this afternoon for any wrestlers who can make it. Practice is from 3-5:00.

12/5/05 Loyola's wrestling season got off to an excellent start as Loyola swept two tri meets over the weekend. In a tri meet with Bowling Brook and John Carroll Loyola's varsity team won both matches, beating Bowling Brook 73-3 and John Carroll 53-21. More impressive was the first win for Loyola's MJWL team in their inaugural tri-meet with Woodlawn and Owing's Mills. In the first dual meet for this new team at Loyola the young Dons defeated Woodlawn 50-34 and Owing's Mills 48-46.

12/1/05 The match this evening with St. Paul's has been postponed for medical reasons with the host school. The rescheduled date will be posted when available. The tri-meet with Bowling Brook and John Carroll is Saturday. Loyola wrestlers need to be at Loyola at 10:15 Saturday morning. This is when the FUN starts.

11/30/05 Loyola has it's first three matches of the year this weekend. Friday afternoon the season kicks off with an away duel at St. Paul's. There will be no JV match for this meet. Saturday is the first home date for the Dons as they take on John Carroll and Bowling Brook in a tri meet. There will be a JV match with this meet. Weigh ins are at 10:30.
