Loyola wins Romp in the Swamp
12/December/2010
After many years of close finishes the 2010-11 Loyola wrestling team finally won the tournament in Perry Hall. The tournament formally known as the BIG 20 tournament and now known as the Romp in the Swamp turned into a three team brawl with Loyola, Perry Hall and Wilde Lake finishing first, second, and third. Perry Hall is the current 20th ranked team and Wilde Lake is ranked 17th in the Varsity Sports Net top 20 state wide poll.
Loyola advanced seven wrestlers to the finals with David Mohler (103), Walter Johnson (112), Ben Smist (125), Conan Schuster (140), Mike Zito (145), Joe Moreno (152), and Brad Randall (160). Although the Dons only took home top honors with Mohler, Schuster, and Zito, it was enough for the Dons to seal the victory. In addition David Mohler was named the Outstanding Lightweight Wrestler, and Mike Zito was named the middle weight Outstanding Wrestler. Both of them defeated their opponents from Perry Hall who they had previously faced in the finals at the Parkville Tournament.
This upcoming week sees a crucial early season home dual with the Arundel Wildcats on Wednesday night at 5:30. It is a Black out night for the Dosn so please wear all black and watch the dons take on the 15th ranked Wild Cats of Arundel.
