Cavalier Duals
01/January/2012
The result was Loyola placing 5 of the 16 teams invited to the Cavalier Duals. Friday started well for the Dons as we beat Oxford of Pennsylvania 66-18. Following that, however was the match with the defending MIAA and MIS champion Archbishop Spalding Cavaliers. Although the Dons wrestled well we were outgunned by the Cavs and ended up losing 29-42. Friday night concluded with a win against Kent Island. ON Saturday Loyola was placed in the championship pool and immediately ran into the toughest team at the duals and eventual dual winner Georgetown Prep. Following that was a rematch with third place River Hill and we came out on the short end of another squeeker 35-39. From that point on however Loyola ran the table winning against Kennet of Eastern Pennsylvania and George Marshall of Virginia.
The weekend ended with Loyola in 5th place but having lost to three of the top ten teams in the state. The last match against George Marshall also featured senior Ben Smist earning his 100th varsity win. Ben has a career record of 100 wins and 37 losses. David Mohler also is approaching this milestone as he earned 7 wins (five by pin) on the weekend to run his career record to 96-13.

Busy week as the season hits the slightly more than half way point. Tonight the Dons got back on track, and though still a little banged up beat a Broadneck team that was an MSWA honorable mention team. The final score of 64-18 was a pleasant surprise as the Dons got nice wins from Marcellus Brown at 106 and Mike Bregenzer at 170. This weekend promises to be a real test for the team as we travel to Archbishop Spalding for the Cavalier Duals. Friday night in pool wrestling we will wrestle Archbishop Spalding, Oxford and Kent Island. Saturday's wrestling depends on the results of Friday night.
The Dons are still the No. 14 ranked team in the state and have plenty of tough opponents ahead before the end of the series of MIAAs, MIS, and Preps.
A sample of the teams Loyola has already faced this season and their in state rankings.
