
Dec 9, 2009 The first home dual meet of the season saw the Dons in action against perennial B conference power St. Vincent Pallotti. The Dons, initially trailed 0-12, but then rolled off 10 straight wins to seal the victory 54-18.
Dec 5, 2009 Loyola returned to the Parkville tournament tournament to kick off the 2010 wrestling season and walked away with everything but first place. The Dons entered 12 wrestlers in the tournament and finished with 11 place winners. The team also led the tournament field in champions with five. Freshman David Mohler(103), Sophomore Ben Smist(112), senior Kevin Frantz (125), junior Mike Zito (145), and senior Gus Moreno (160) all claimed tournament titles.
In addition to these champions, both Gus and Kevin took home the Outstanding wrester awards for the tournament. In the end though it was not enough as Loyola finished in second place behind a deep Owings Mills team.
September 20, 2009 Loyola will hold open mats for anyone interested on Tuesday and Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:30.
This past summer incoming freshman David Mohler traveled to Fargo, North Dakota with Team Maryland to compete in the Junior National Championships. David became an All-American with his seventh place finish in freestyle. The local article for the event can be found here.
Joining Loyola's coaching staff is Greg Hegel. Greg wrestled at the Blair Academy and Northwestern University. Greg will be replacing John Wineberg who has returned to his hometown in Pennsylvania.
